Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir,

I hope you are absolutely fantastic. Last night, I read the article which wrote in a national newspaper. I agree at some point because most of the restaurants, malls, government offices and street food shops are oraganized with as it in other nations.

However, high branded shopping centres are well-managed as compared to other countries. In my city, cleaning is extremely crucial of the malls. for instance, I went Goa which is the most popular tourist city. I visited there in one mall, but there was no cleaning and workers were ungenuine. Moreover, in my town centre, the lighting show and others activities are organized at daily basis. One more interesting thing, I want add here, CN tower and rogers staidums are located in the heart of my centre where we can see the whole Canada beautiful view from the highesr distance and in rogers stadium all celeberties are come here from all over the world and perform because it is the world's largest stadium.

Furthermore, I want to suggest to you to write a guided tour regarding the historical places which are situated in diffrent citiers such as Toronto, Ottawa and many more.

Yours Sincerely

Mnadeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers all three bullet points required by the task, though the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The student acknowledges points of agreement regarding standardized shops, attempts to explain how their town centre differs by mentioning specific landmarks, and extends an invitation for a tour. However, the mention of the CN Tower and Rogers Stadium mixes up the town centre concept with a major global city (Toronto), which impacts the plausibility of the argument. Additionally, the final bullet point suggests a tour of historical places in different cities rather than the writer's own town centre specifically. Despite these minor logical inconsistencies, the main communicative purpose of the letter is achieved and all prompts are addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The letter opens with an appropriate salutation, though the greeting 'I hope you are absolutely fantastic' is a bit too informal for a letter to a newspaper editor. Paragraphing is attempted, but the text is clumped into dense blocks that lack clear transitional flow. Cohesive devices are occasionally used (e.g., 'However', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore'), but referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'others activities' and abrupt shifts between topics. The overall progression feels somewhat disjointed, jumping rapidly from general cleaning to specific stadiums and then to distant cities, which affects the readability and logical sequencing of the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and often inappropriate for the context. There are several noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'article which wrote', 'agree at some point', 'oraganized with as it in other nations', and 'cleaning is extremely crucial of the malls'. The writer also uses unatural phrases like 'ungenuine' for workers and 'highesr distance'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary like 'celebrities' and 'historical places', spelling and morphological errors ('oraganized', 'diffrent', 'citiers') occur throughout, meaning the lexical range remains basic and occasionally causes strain for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in tense, preposition usage, and sentence structure throughout the response, such as 'in rogers stadium all celeberties are come here'. Punctuation and capitalization are also problematic, with missing capitals on proper nouns like 'Goa' and 'Canada' in certain constructions, and awkward phrasing like 'organize at daily basis'. These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and demonstrate limited control over complex grammatical structures.
