Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well. I want to express my dissatisfaction with your article which claimed wrong information about my country town centres.
Although, I agree with some facts and I appreciate you for mentioning the services the centres offers. Other than that, you have added all the existing brand stores and all this information is accurate.
However, I was not satisfied with some of yopur observation. You mentioned the cleaning standard was not up to the mark but I would like to mention that before your inspection day we had a terrible night as a thunderstorm took place making it challenging for us to clean because our roof collapsed most of the stores got affected by the rain.
Perhaps, we had cleaned everything now and I want to officialy invite you for a revisit. I would love to host you and will be your tour guide. Moreover, I would take you to places where you might have skipped on your first visit as these places are unique and make us different from other town centres.
I hope you will consider my request and would join us for a revisit. I look forward to your response.
Yours sincerily,
Raj Mishra

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, though the coverage of certain bullet points is uneven and limited. You successfully state which parts of the article you agree with, mentioning the services and brand stores, and you offer a guided tour of the town in the final paragraphs. However, your explanation of how your town centre differs from others is somewhat under-developed and clouded by a specific, unusual excuse regarding a thunderstorm and a collapsed roof rather than general characteristics. The position you take is apparent, but the ideas lack the extension and broader support characteristic of a higher band level. To improve, you should expand on distinct architectural, historical, or cultural features of your town rather than focusing heavily on temporary weather-related incidents.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and clearly demonstrates a logical progression throughout, successfully meeting the requirements for a solid band score while touching upon elements of the next level. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different stages of the letter, such as the introduction, agreement, counter-argument, and invitation. You make use of various cohesive devices to connect your thoughts, including transition words like 'Although', 'However', and 'Moreover'. However, some referencing is slightly mechanical or repetitive, and certain transitions feel abrupt. To reach the next level, you need to ensure smoother linking between sentences and more sophisticated referencing, making the logical relationships between your ideas entirely natural and unobtrusive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'dissatisfaction', 'inspection day', and 'officialy'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors that occasionally draw attention, such as 'yopur' instead of 'your', 'officialy' with a missing letter, and awkward collocations like 'claimed wrong information' instead of 'provided incorrect information' or 'published inaccurate claims'. Word choice is sometimes basic or imprecise. To improve your lexical score, you should broaden your range of less common vocabulary, pay closer attention to natural word partnerships, and carefully check your spelling and word forms before finalising your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures with conditional and dependent clauses like 'Although, I agree with some facts...' and '...places where you might have skipped...'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text. For instance, sentence fragments and incorrect punctuation appear, as seen in the isolated introductory clause 'Although, I agree...' and issues with comma splices. Verb forms and tense consistency also show lapses, such as 'Perhaps, we had cleaned everything now'. To achieve a higher band, you need to demonstrate greater control over complex sentence structures and significantly reduce the frequency of grammatical and punctuation errors.
