Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to share my thoughts about the infrastructure of the town centres in our nation but my opinion is slightly different. Since I am reading your newspaper from my teenage, which becomes the great source of knowlwdge to me. Yesterday. I read a article about the outer look of the all towns in country. As you described about the history, language and culture of the each city make nation' identity strong which is quite good and I also agree with that.

Moreover, I would like to discuss some key elements aboutthe identity of my hometown. Although each city demonstrate their own culture , it has developed the infrastrucre with the advancement of modernization. In my hometown people save their culture and we still have ancient buildings and we restore few ancient monuments which are quite unique.

I would like to offer a guided tour for your writer which can help you to enhance their knowledge and give a opportunity to see the infrastrucure of my hometown while I would recommend you to come in Fall season which enhance the beauty of my city and it is a best time to explore the town.

Kind regards,

Dilpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three required points: you respond to the article, describe features of your hometown, and offer the writer a guided tour. Your agreement with the article is clear in the reference to how history, language and culture strengthen national identity, while your disagreement is signalled at the start. The most relevant contrast is the mention of ancient buildings and restored monuments, but this remains general; a specific example or explanation of how these features distinguish your town from others would develop the point. The tour offer is also present, though “your writer” makes the intended visitor unclear, and the seasonal recommendation could be linked more directly to what the visitor would see. Overall, the task is covered, but some points are less fully explained than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, with an opening, separate paragraphs for your views and hometown, and a closing offer. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Although,” and “I would like to offer” help signal the stages of your response. However, some connections are unclear or mechanical: the sentence beginning “Since I am reading your newspaper…” does not connect smoothly to the article you discuss, and “Although each city demonstrate…” introduces a contrast that is difficult to follow. The reference to “your writer” also leaves the reader unsure who is being invited. To improve progression, make each paragraph focus on one clear purpose and use pronouns and transitions that show precisely how each idea relates to the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “identity,” “modernization,” “ancient buildings,” and “monuments,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “share my thoughts” and “guided tour.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “outer look” for appearance, “save their culture” for preserve their culture, and “enhance their knowledge” in the context of a tour. Spelling errors such as “knowledwge,” “infrastrucre,” and “infrastrucure” also reduce accuracy. Choose more natural phrases and check spelling carefully; this would make your meaning clearer and your vocabulary more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which becomes the great source of knowledge to me” and a concessive opening with “Although.” This shows some range, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms sometimes make the message harder to follow. For example, “Since I am reading your newspaper from my teenage” is not a complete, well-formed sentence, and “each city demonstrate their own culture” has a subject–verb agreement problem. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “I read a article” and the fragment-like “Yesterday.” Practise building complete sentences and checking agreement, articles, and punctuation, especially when joining several ideas with “but,” “since,” or “although.”
