Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
The reason for my writing is to give my opinion on an article which you published in a national newspaper which mentioned that in our country all town centres look similar. My name is Himanshi Patel and your newspaper daily came at my home address as I am your regular reader.
There are some points where I agree with an article such as all town centres are mostly have local shops, a food market and a shopping area. People mostly use it daily for shopping and social getharings.
However, the town centre in my city is quite different from others. There are a few historical places such as Teen Darvaja and Kankariya Lake because of these it is also very famous location for tourists.
I am also able to provide guided tour of my town to the writer of the article, which will give him enough information about my town. After that he will able to write more detail information about it.
I hope this information helps you and I anticipate your valued response at your earliest convenience.
Yours sincerely,
Himanshi Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you identify features you agree are common, describe distinctive places in your city, and offer the article’s writer a guided tour. Your position is clear in “I don’t fully agree” in the task context and is supported by the contrast introduced with “However.” The examples of Teen Darvaja and Kankariya Lake make the difference more specific. The common features and the city’s distinctiveness are relevant, but both explanations remain brief; for example, you do not explain what makes these places unusual or how they shape the town centre. The offer is also clear but could be more personal and practical, such as suggesting when you could show the writer around. This covers the task, with some points less fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall sequence: purpose, points of agreement, contrast, tour offer, and closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and “However” effectively signals the shift from shared features to your town’s differences. Some links are less smooth or precise. In “because of these it is also very famous location,” the reference of “these” is not fully clear, and “After that” does not establish a necessary sequence between the tour and the writer producing an article. The opening also repeats “which” in a long sentence, making the purpose less direct. Use clearer references and more natural transitions, while keeping the useful paragraph structure, to make progression feel less mechanical.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “local shops,” “food market,” “historical places,” and “guided tour.” The place names also add useful specificity. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “your newspaper daily came at my home address,” “social getharings,” “famous location,” and “write more detail information.” Spelling errors such as “getharings” are noticeable, and some phrases repeat general words such as “town” and “information.” Aim for more natural expressions and check spelling and word forms. A broader, more precise range would help you describe what makes the landmarks distinctive rather than simply naming them.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple sentences and some attempts at longer structures, such as “There are some points where I agree with an article such as…” and the sentence explaining the landmarks. The message remains understandable, but errors in articles, agreement, and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “all town centres are mostly have” combines incompatible verb forms, while “it is also very famous location” needs an article and clearer agreement with the landmarks. “After that he will able” is missing a verb, and the opening sentence is awkwardly extended through repeated relative clauses. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check articles and verb forms; greater control would make the letter smoother without sacrificing variety.
