Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hello Sir,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to offer you a guided tour of our town centre. Also, I am not fully agree with the statement mentioned in the article on the Times of India newspaper that all town centres in our country look alike.

Firstly, I agree with the point that town centre is where people go shopping, work, meet friends, eat at restaurants, and access different services. However, according to location its size and range of shops and other facilities varies.

I am living in Royal Estate, Ontario. our society recreational centre is far better than any other centre. The reason behind this is that it build while considering the kids and the eldery people in mind. In our centre, there are plenty of social activities and playground availble for kids, library, drama and entertainment complex for adults. Although, here elderly people walk and reconnect with older people of same age and discuss about life and share memories. Every month a small event is being organized in this town centre, where people participate and gain prizes.

I would really appreciate it if you come for a quick tour to our town centre. I would be happy to assist and explain you every section in detail, how our recreational center is far better than any other in the country.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Aashima

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the three requested points: you identify a feature of town centres that you agree with, describe facilities in Royal Estate, and invite the writer to visit. Your position is clear in “I am not fully agree” despite the grammatical error, and the examples of activities for children, adults, and older residents make the town sound distinctive. However, the point of agreement is quite general, and the description does not clearly compare Royal Estate with most other town centres; “far better than any other” is asserted rather than supported with specific contrasts. Develop the comparison with concrete details, and make the offer of a guided tour more explicit by suggesting what the writer would see or do.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure: an opening, a paragraph about your agreement, a longer description of the town, and a closing invitation. Sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “However” help show relationships between ideas. Overall, the reader can follow your main message, but some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “However, according to location its size…” does not clearly connect to the previous point, and “Although” begins a sentence that is not completed as a contrast. The long paragraph also combines several groups and activities without clear internal organisation. Use separate paragraphs for your agreement and the town’s distinctive features, and connect examples with clearer references and transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “recreational centre,” “social activities,” “playground,” and “guided tour.” These details help convey what visitors might see. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “our society recreational centre,” “reconnect with older people of same age,” and “explain you every section.” Spelling errors in “eldery” and “availble” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and precise descriptions, and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe the centre as a community facility and say that older residents meet people their own age; this would make the account clearer and more idiomatic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “where people participate and gain prizes” and a conditional-style polite request, “I would really appreciate it if you come.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “I am not fully agree” (use “I do not fully agree”), “I am living in Royal Estate” (for a settled home, use “I live”), and “it build while considering” (use a correctly formed passive, such as “it was built with … in mind”). Articles and agreement also need attention in “town centre is where” and “its size and range … varies.” Review verb forms, sentence boundaries, and agreement, while continuing to practise complex structures.
