Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to you regarding an article in global newspaper which mentioned that city centres in India looks similiar to each other, however I am disagree with this opinion.
In the article you have mentioned that buildings structure is more similar to each other that is ture. As well as about street overview designs and style look like same which I am agree with your article.
However, each town centre is different from most other town centres by its history, construction and material they use is totally different. Also, city's history is connected to culture of my town which represents some elephant, lion and horses design which is totally different than other town centres.
I would like to invite you to join Ahmedabad city guided tour which start in the morning until afternoon by walk. In this tour you can cover most of our old city centre part which is full of history and related to art where you will find that each city centre is different than another.
I look forward to hearing from you and let me know if you need anything else.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and make your position clear: you partly agree that buildings and street designs can look similar, but argue that Ahmedabad differs through its history and cultural features. The examples of elephant, lion and horse designs help make the contrast relevant, and the invitation to take a walking tour is appropriate. However, some points are only partly developed. For instance, “history, construction and material” are named as differences, but the response does not explain what is distinctive about the construction or materials. The tour offer could also be more specific about a meeting point or notable places to visit. The response meets the stated length requirement; the nine words copied from the task prompt are excluded from the count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces your disagreement, acknowledges points from the article, describes local differences, and then makes the tour offer. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “However” and “Also” help signal contrasts and additions. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. The opening sentence combines several ideas with “however,” while the next paragraph’s “As well as” does not form a complete connection to the preceding sentence. References such as “this tour” are understandable, but the description of what the visitor will see could be organised more clearly. To strengthen cohesion, use complete, direct transitions and make each paragraph develop one main point in a more connected sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “city centres,” “history,” “culture,” “guided tour” and “old city centre,” so the main message is generally clear. There are also attempts to use more specific language, such as “street overview designs” and “construction and material,” but some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, which limits clarity and flexibility. Spelling errors such as “similiar” and “ture” are noticeable, and phrases like “look like same” and “full of history” could be expressed more naturally. Aim to learn common collocations for describing architecture and local identity, and check spelling carefully. More precise choices would help you explain how Ahmedabad differs rather than relying on broad terms such as “different” and “totally different.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “however” and a relative clause in “which represents some elephant, lion and horses design.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “city centres in India looks” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “I am disagree” uses an incorrect verb form. There are also issues with articles and number, as in “buildings structure” and “some elephant, lion and horses design.” The sentence beginning “However, each town centre is different … by its history” has an unclear grammatical relationship between its subject and the list of reasons. Practise accurate agreement, verb patterns and sentence construction, while retaining your attempts at longer sentences.
