Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You mention a few relevant features, including a restaurant, a basketball court and a supermarket, and you express a positive attitude towards your town. However, the task is addressed only minimally: you do not clearly identify which points in the newspaper article you agree with, and the examples do not explain convincingly how your town differs from most town centres. The offer of a guided tour is also not stated clearly; “To show you what we have here” is only an indirect suggestion and does not explicitly invite the writer. The letter also lacks a clear closing. To improve, respond directly to each bullet point and explain the contrast between your town and the article’s claim.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic sequence of ideas about local places and your feelings about living in the town, but the information is not arranged coherently enough for the reader to follow the purpose of the letter. Several short fragments, such as “And the other place” and “To show you what we have here,” interrupt the flow, while repeated links such as “And” do not show how ideas relate. The shift from town-centre features to your plans to start a family is also abrupt. Use separate paragraphs for your response to the article, examples of local differences, and the tour invitation. Connect each example to the main point with clear referencing and transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on “very,” “nice,” “place” and “here.” Some wording makes the intended meaning difficult to understand, as in “you can be like for sure” and “make takes time.” There are attempts to describe local features, such as “classic” for the restaurant and “home court” for the basketball facility, but these choices are not precise or natural in context. More accurate town-centre vocabulary would help you explain your ideas clearly and avoid repetition. For example, describe the restaurant’s style or food specifically, and use established terms such as “basketball court” and “shopping centre” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies mainly on short, simple clauses, and frequent errors in sentence formation and basic grammar sometimes make the message hard to follow. For example, “I hope your in a good situations” has problems with the verb form, article and singular/plural agreement, while “this my country is very similar” is missing a verb. Several fragments, including “And thus restaurant is very classic and organize,” are not complete or well-formed sentences. There is also inconsistent control of pronouns and verb patterns in “you can buy what ever they want.” Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, agreement, and punctuation. A few accurate complex sentences would add range.
