Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Dir or Madam,

I am wiritng this letter to formally inform you that I don't fully agree with the article that you made about the similarity of the town centres in this country.

I believe that each town centres has its own unique and beauty. I agree with this statement however, I would like to let you know the differences in each centres that was built in this country. In my area, the town centres here were big and complete. People loves to go there because it has many stalls and especially people working there were kind and hospitable. Aside from this, the building itself is unique. The structure and designs were made by the locals and this made the centre more unique.

If you have the time to visit here, I would like to invite and guide you here in my town. I am available all weekdays and weekends at 9:00 AM onwards.

respectfully Yours,

Elle

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You make your disagreement clear in the opening and give relevant reasons for it, including the locally designed buildings, the range of stalls, and the friendliness of people working there. You also fulfil the invitation point by offering to guide the writer and giving your availability. However, the article’s points that you agree with are not clearly identified: “I agree with this statement” is confusing because it appears to support the claim you have just rejected. Clarify which specific observation in the article you accept, then distinguish it from the features that make your town different. The description of your town is relevant, but examples of particular buildings, stalls, or local designs would develop it more fully and make your case more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from your response to the article, to a description of your town, and finally to the invitation. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these main stages, and expressions such as “Aside from this” signal an additional point. Some connections are less clear, however. In particular, “I agree with this statement however” conflicts with your stated disagreement, so the relationship between the ideas is difficult to follow. The second paragraph also shifts from general claims about town centres to your own town without a clear transition. Use more precise linking and references—for example, explicitly separate the article’s valid observation from the distinctive features of your town—and punctuate transitions such as “However” appropriately.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “similarity,” “unique,” “structure,” “designs,” and “hospitable,” and your meaning is generally understandable. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice problems that reduce precision, such as “wiritng,” “Dir,” and “beauty” where an adjective is needed. Some phrases are also unnatural or repetitive: “the differences in each centres” and “made the centre more unique” could be expressed more accurately and economically. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe the town centre as having distinctive architecture or locally designed buildings, rather than repeating “unique”; this would make your vocabulary more precise and appropriate for a formal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, and most of the message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors are noticeable, particularly with agreement and plural forms: “each town centres has” should be “each town centre has,” while “People loves” should be “People love.” The sentence “I agree with this statement however” also needs clearer punctuation and a more logical grammatical connection, such as a full stop before “However.” In “the building itself is unique,” the shift from plural town centres to a singular building is not clearly signposted. Review subject–verb agreement, singular and plural nouns, and punctuation around linking adverbs. More consistently accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the letter.
