Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the explanation of why people prefer familiar things is quite brief, relying on simple statements like 'they can save the time and money'. The arguments lack depth and specific examples to support the claims. While the task is addressed, the ideas are often repetitive and lack the necessary elaboration required for a higher band. The position is clear, but the supporting points need to be more fully developed to meet the requirements of a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'To commence with one side' and 'Conversely' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is disjointed. There is a lack of variety in linking words, and some sentences feel disconnected from the previous ones. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas is not always smooth, which occasionally forces the reader to re-read to understand the intended meaning.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Words like 'new things', 'people', and 'life' are used frequently throughout the text. There are attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the range is limited. Collocations are sometimes unnatural, such as 'visit to new country' or 'keep family in life'. To improve, you should focus on using a wider range of synonyms and more precise academic vocabulary to express your ideas more effectively and avoid simple, repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'Some people can successful in life' or 'new things has both pros and cons'. Punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. Subject-verb agreement and article usage are frequent areas of error. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of grammatical slips limits the range and accuracy, preventing the essay from reaching a higher band.
