Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, some people prefer to try new things such as visiting places and enjoying food while others prefer to do the things they are familiar with. No doubt, there are benefits of trying new things because they want to explore varied things. however, doing familiar things have their own benefits which cannot be overlooked.

To begin with, people prefer to do new things like visiting new places and enjoying types of food as they want to explore new things and collecting knowledge about the particular place by interacting with people of particular community in order to increase their links which would be beneficial later on in the future. Moreover, they like to spend finances on things like travelling in order represent their wealth in the society which as a result build their status amongst others.

On the other hand, people who prefer to do same things such as living in a particular area from long period are more familiar with the location which help them to keep others safe in case of an emergency. for example, people who are living in a particular area are more familiar with the routes during road construction. Further, middle class families prefer to enjoy things in their own society in order to avoid the burden of expenses by purchasing tickets for travelling to new locations and save those funds for the future use.

In my opinion, there are benefits of exploring new things such as making new friends but spending time in their own region allows them to stay connected with the memories of the childhood such as playing in a ground which strengthen their relationship with their closed ones

To conclude, there are varied reasons for people trying new things like developing links by making new friends. however, there are varied benefits of doing things like spending time with their loved ones cannot be overlooked.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both attitudes and providing a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding 'representing wealth' as a reason for travel is a bit superficial and could have been expanded with more logical depth. The opinion provided in the fourth paragraph is clear but could be more integrated into the overall argument. The response stays on topic throughout, but the depth of analysis is more characteristic of a Band 6.0, as some points are mentioned rather than fully explored.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of familiar places and the financial argument in the third paragraph is slightly abrupt. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, and paragraphing is used appropriately.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is some repetition of phrases like 'new things' and 'particular area'. While there are attempts to use more varied vocabulary, such as 'interact', 'community', and 'emergency', the range is somewhat limited. Some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'spend finances' instead of 'spend money' or 'allocate funds'. The level of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('doing familiar things have their own benefits') and missing articles ('collecting knowledge about the particular place'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences starting with lowercase letters after a period. While these errors are noticeable, they do not significantly impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on improving accuracy in complex sentence structures and ensuring consistent punctuation.
