Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some individuals love to explore new things and try them. However, others are opposite they want the same things all the times. I strongly agree with view point of exploring something new all the times. We will discuss both views and reasons behind this in the upcoming paragraphs.

The first and foremost reason to justify my stand is that it can expand your knowledge about different cultures. To explain it, if you take initiative to do new things, you will be able to know about the basics or reasons behind doing it and it can ultimately provide some essential information about the things that you are unaware. For instance, visiting historical places can give you significant information about the other people culture and traditions. Additionally, it can help you to deal with different background individual. For example, If you visit a person for any business purpose and you have some fundamental knowledge about their traditions and special food. You can bring it for them and it will increase the chances of positive bonding.

On the other hand, some others are from the opposite opinion. They claim that they feel secure and comfortable when they do the familiar things despite trying new. To exemplify, If you order same food, there are no any chances to stay hungry or waste of your money. However, there are lot of advantages and disadvantages of trying new dishes.

To conclude, it can be commented that exploring different things has its own benefits such as expansion of knowledge, development of some skills. While another view point regarding comfort and safety cannot be neglected.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why people prefer familiar things is quite brief and lacks depth, focusing only on the example of ordering food. While the prompt is addressed, the arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band. The conclusion is also a bit abrupt and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs. To improve, ensure that each supporting point is fully explained with more detailed reasoning or broader examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'The first and foremost reason', 'Additionally', and 'On the other hand' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of business and the conclusion of that paragraph is slightly disjointed. Overall, the progression of ideas is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and natural to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using less common vocabulary, such as 'fundamental knowledge' and 'positive bonding'. However, there are also instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'others are opposite' instead of 'others hold the opposite view' and 'waste of your money' which is slightly unidiomatic. The range is sufficient for the task, but more precise and sophisticated vocabulary would be needed to move into the higher bands. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the writing. Examples include 'others are opposite they want' (run-on sentence), 'all the times' (incorrect pluralization), 'other people culture' (missing possessive 's'), and 'If you order same food, there are no any chances' (article and phrasing issues). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with grammatical precision.
