Student answer (Band 7.0)
Many individuals like to explore new things, such as new destinations and different types of foods, while others prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with. This essay will discuss both views and my opinion.
On the one hand, people prefer to try new things. It benefits in several ways. Firstly, it allows individuals to gain access to different cultures, foods and places, which helps them to understand different people, their local food and memorable experiences of exploring different destinations. For example, many people have visited Antarctica to enjoy breathtaking views and also to face challenges during their journey. Secondly, trying new places and foods develops various skills such as, problem-solving, communication skills and self-confidence. For instance, someone who explores new things is more independent and open-minded than others.
On the other hand, some people prefer to do things they are familiar with due to some reasons. To begin with, it gives a sense of safety and security to individuals and lack of risks in their journey. For example, people visit known places made it easy for them to plan and travel to the destination. To illustrate, a visit to a known place helps individuals to prepare accordingly and take the necessary thing with them to made their journey easy and comfortable.
In my opinion, I strongly say that people should try new things such as different places and foods, which allows them to learn a lot about different cultures, destinations, foods and a way of life.
To conclude, although doing things which are familiar feels more secure and safe, people should try new things to get new experiences which help them to grow personally and develop very useful skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, though some points could be more deeply developed. For instance, the discussion on 'safety and security' in the second body paragraph is a good point, but it could be supported with a more specific, real-world example rather than a general description of planning a trip. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main arguments. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully extended with detailed reasoning or specific evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there is occasional repetition of phrases like 'different cultures, destinations, foods'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow and coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'open-minded' and 'personally grow'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is noticeable repetition of basic words like 'things', 'places', and 'foods'. To improve, the student should aim to use more precise synonyms and collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'things', using terms like 'novel experiences', 'familiar routines', or 'unexplored territories' would demonstrate a more sophisticated lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'It benefits in several ways' (needs an object), 'people visit known places made it easy' (incorrect verb form), and 'take the necessary thing with them to made their journey' (tense error). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
