Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people love to try new things to feel some change in their lifestyle whereas others stick to their picked favorites. There are plenty of options available to try whether it's food or new activities. Experience of different cultures can be overwhelming at first but after a while it makes one feel like they are part of it.

Since the social media became popular, most of humans are not scared to try new things because they know the outcome of it. For example, food from different cuisine might not look familiar to the brain, but when trying for the first time it feels heavenly. In addition, some physical activities like rock climbing and scuba diving looks scary but after the adrenaline rush is over it all starts to feel normal again.

On the other hand, the feeling of not trying something can be there due to a bad experience. There are multiple people on open ai survey states that they do not want to try the new software because it is going to harm the world. Even though it's CEO stated that it is completely safe to use and it can increase the productivity while reducing the work time. A person with trauma might experience the same feeling. For an instance, after recovering from knee injury I thought I could never play again, but once I jumped on the field with my friend it all started feeling basic. Muscle memory is a quite tricky Neurological term which can lead either to anxiety to protect you or keep you focused during the activity. In general, if one can have control over their mind, they can achieve the brighter side of this term to succeed.

In my opinion, for some people it is hard to defeat fear but all the people should try new things and do what they are afraid to do and it is easily achievable by Neuro plasticity in their side.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The discussion on why people prefer familiarity is slightly tangential, focusing heavily on specific examples like AI software and knee injuries rather than broader lifestyle choices. While the position is clear, the arguments could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The conclusion is brief and could have better summarised the main points to provide a more cohesive final stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'In addition', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the sudden introduction of the 'open ai survey' which lacks context. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is generally logical, but the connection between the concept of 'muscle memory' and the broader prompt about trying new things could be more explicitly linked to improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. You use some good collocations like 'adrenaline rush' and 'muscle memory'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'most of humans' instead of 'most humans' or 'on open ai survey states' which is grammatically and lexically incorrect. The use of 'Neuro plasticity' is a good attempt at topic-specific vocabulary, but it is slightly misused in the final sentence. To improve, focus on more natural collocations and ensure that technical terms are used in the correct context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'Since the social media became popular' (article usage), 'some physical activities... looks scary' (subject-verb agreement), and 'on their side' (preposition usage). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency. To reach a higher band, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentences.
