Student answer (Band 6.0)

People have different attitudes towards life . Some enjoy trying new things ,such as visiting new places and tasting different foods ,While other prefer to continue with activities they already know. Both approaches have advantages and disadvantages , and i believe a balance between them is the best.

Those who like to try new things argue that it makes life m,ore exciting and helps people learn. for example traveling to a new city allows a person to experience different cultures, languages, and tradations. Trying new foods can also broaden a persons taste and improve their understanding of other people country . people with this attitude are often more open minded and adaptable . However, the disadvantage is that the new experiences can sometime risky or uncomfortable ,and they may cost more time and money.

On the other hand people who prefer familer things value comfortable and safety. They already know what to expect, so they feel less stressed. For instance, eating at the same restaurant or visiting the same holiday place each year can be relaxing because there are no surprises. This approach also help people become expert in certain areas. The problem is that sticking only to familiar things can make life boring and limit personal growth.

In my opinion, it is good to try new things occasionally, but is also important to keep some familiar routines. This way, people can enjoy both excitements and stability in their lifes. People who embarance change gain new knowledge, while those who prefer familiarity gain peace of mind .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes towards trying new things versus maintaining familiarity, and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, such as the benefits of cultural exposure for the former and the comfort of routine for the latter. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, the development of ideas could be slightly more nuanced, perhaps by providing a more concrete personal example rather than general statements, but the current level of development is sufficient for a solid performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'For instance', and 'However' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. The progression of ideas is clear throughout. While the flow is generally smooth, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat standard; incorporating a wider variety of linking phrases would further enhance the sophistication of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some good collocations like 'broaden a person's taste' and 'personal growth'. However, there are several spelling errors (e.g., 'tradations', 'familer', 'embarance') and minor word-choice issues (e.g., 'excitements' used as a countable noun). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a wider range of precise vocabulary to reach the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using complex sentences, such as 'Those who like to try new things argue that it makes life more exciting and helps people learn.' However, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'other prefer' (should be 'others'), 'a persons taste' (missing apostrophe), and 'in their lifes' (should be 'lives'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the message. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammatical rules would improve the score.
