Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 98 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The essay introduces the two viewpoints but fails to provide a balanced discussion or a clear personal opinion as requested by the prompt. The ideas presented, such as the benefits of exploring new things for communication skills, are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting examples or depth. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words and provide a structured argument that covers all parts of the prompt, including a clear conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear organizational structure. While there is a brief introduction and a paragraph attempting to discuss one side of the argument, the transition between ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'Furthermore' and 'as a result'. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the lack of a conclusion makes the overall progression of ideas unclear. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits the ability to convey complex ideas. Phrases like 'do those things' and 'new things' are vague. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'dishes of food' instead of 'types of cuisine' and 'communication become strong' instead of 'communication skills improve'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary and collocations related to the topic of personal preferences and experiences.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with sentence structure, such as the run-on sentence in the introduction and the lack of proper punctuation. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, for example, 'Their couristy... become habit' should be 'Their curiosity... becomes a habit'. The range of grammatical structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and subject-verb agreement, before attempting more complex structures.
