Student answer (Band 6.0)
People are unique and have different choices while some like to try new things such as to explore different places and types of food whereas some prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with.
On one hand, we have people who loves to try new things which not only gives them an exposure but also helps to boost confidence as it leads to sense of self accomplishment. It also helps to reduce mental and physical stress. For example, travelling to a country that one knows nothing about and exploring and familiarizing with locals will teach one so many life lessons that no book can. There is a saying that people who are adventurous are the ones who love to explore various types of places and food. The fact that people get to travel is a privilege as one is exposed to different types of cultures and cuisines which familiarizes us on how people in different country live and what they eat.
While on the other hand, we have people who prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with which has its own advantages and disadvantages. People naturally are comfortable to follow a routine which helps in achieving discipline without any unnecessary distractions which not helps to focus on our task but also to compel the effectively and efficiently but it can also lead mental stress and physical burnout. For example, recently a study was done where a police officer working for 12 hours everyday 7 days a week had the hear rate of a professional boxer which is very high for a normal human being.
In conclusion, I believe that one should have a mix of both where one is living sedimentary life for some time while also giving himself a chance to explore new things.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the prompt and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The argument for trying new things is well-supported with examples, but the section on routine is less clear, particularly the example of the police officer, which feels slightly disconnected from the main point about routine versus stress. To reach a higher band, ensure that every example directly reinforces the specific argument being made. The conclusion is a bit brief; expanding on why a balance is beneficial would have strengthened the overall response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'While on the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow within paragraphs could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the benefits of routine and the example of the police officer is abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are long and slightly convoluted, which occasionally impacts the clarity of the logical progression. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring tighter sentence-to-sentence connections would enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'sedimentary' (which is misused here; 'sedentary' was likely intended) and 'privilege'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and minor collocation errors, such as 'compel the effectively' and 'hear rate'. To improve, focus on using vocabulary more precisely and checking the spelling and context of academic terms. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but more precise, topic-specific vocabulary would elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('people who loves') and sentence construction ('which not helps to focus'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences that lack necessary commas. While the errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of relative clauses would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
