Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, there are two types of people around us. One who enjoys exploring and trying new things. The other who likes to do things that they are familiar with. I am more positive about people who have a tendency to do or try new things have a greater portion. I will discuss both views in respective paragraphs.

There are certain kinds of attitudes and quality own who like new things in everyday life, like trying new food, new cultures, and so on. They have a challenging attitude. They keep challenging themselves with new things. As a result, they will become more fearless of doing or getting new tasks in professional or personal life. Furthermore, some people like to do new experiments because they want new experiences with each new activity or experiment. These people often treat these experiments as a thrill, especially the young generation. This kind of attitude makes people more fearless as well self confident.

On the contrary, mostly older people like to do or try things that they are used to. They may not want to try new things. Because they live in their comfort zone. Their minds are not ready to take on new challenges. They find new things challenging. In fact, sometimes their body refuse the new change.

In my opinion, people should try new thing whatever they can, especially the younger generation. As these different things often come as new learning and opportunities.

To sum up, even if people like to do things that they are familiar with, those things, like the place or food, were new to them also.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that people who try new things become 'fearless' and 'self-confident', these points could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The discussion on those who prefer familiarity is also brief and relies on generalizations about older people. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph provides a more thorough exploration of the reasons behind these attitudes, rather than just stating them. Your position is clear throughout, which is a strength.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'On the contrary', and 'To sum up' to link your thoughts. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is a bit abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as in the final sentence where the connection between the conclusion and the previous arguments could be more explicitly stated to improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'comfort zone', 'new experiences', and 'professional or personal life'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat simple words like 'things' and 'new'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations. For example, instead of repeating 'new things', you could use 'novel experiences', 'unfamiliar activities', or 'uncharted territory'. There are no significant spelling errors, but the word choice lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'One who enjoys...' is a sentence fragment, and 'their body refuse' contains a subject-verb agreement error. Additionally, phrases like 'quality own who like' are awkward and grammatically incorrect. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of sentence construction. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy will help improve this score.
