Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the cost of food is mentioned, but it lacks depth or specific examples to make the point convincing. The conclusion is incomplete, as it cuts off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the position. While the task is addressed, the lack of depth in the supporting arguments and the unfinished conclusion limit the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Thus', and 'To sum up'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. The progression of ideas is logical, but the abrupt ending significantly impacts the overall coherence of the final paragraph. More varied linking words would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of incorrect word choice and spelling errors, such as 'individauls', 'experiance', 'plethora of amazing food dishes are available', and 'damage ous wallet'. While the student attempts to use some less common vocabulary like 'ameliorates' and 'contemporary', the frequent errors in spelling and collocation hinder the precision of the writing. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but the errors are noticeable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'are never hesitate', 'some opposite group claims', 'donot have any awarness about it taste', and 'trying new things have ne'. These errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, occur frequently. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band score.
