Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is highly debatable question among people whether to try different food and visiting globally or continue doing the familiar things in their daily life. In my opinion, the blend of both would be a great choice for everyone.

On the one hand, trying new dishes allows people to develop a different taste that they have never tried before, making them feel comfortable with the variety of food. Moreover, discovering new places will provide a sense of satisfaction and mesmerized experience, depending on the popularity of those spots. However, one can feel scared of being lost in such places. To exemplify, hikers usually aim for searching different routes every time to witness breath-taking views from the mountains, so they will have a handful of lifelong memories.

On the other hand, trying same aspects everytime gives the feeling of being safe. Restaurants are likely to remember their regular customers' orders which means, people would not have to compromise in their developed taste. Although it offers similar experience, some individuals find it boring. At certain point, people want increased excitement level within their everyday life moments, and this phenomenon cannot satisfy some people.

To conclude, both the approaches have their own benefits and drawbacks, but in my opinion, people should definitely experience new things alongside other familiar activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped; for instance, the point about hikers is a good start but lacks a clear connection to the broader argument about balancing familiarity and novelty. To improve, you should expand on your examples and provide more detailed explanations for your claims to ensure the response is fully developed and meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the benefits of familiarity and the drawback of boredom is slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a strong topic sentence will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'debatable', 'satisfaction', and 'phenomenon'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'mesmerized experience' (should be 'mesmerizing') and 'trying same aspects' (should be 'sticking to the same routines'). The vocabulary is generally sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more sophisticated synonyms to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'It is highly debatable question' (missing article), 'trying same aspects everytime' (should be 'every time'), and 'At certain point' (missing article). These errors do not impede communication, but they occur frequently enough to affect the overall fluency. To reach a higher band, focus on consistent use of articles, correct verb-noun collocations, and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly.
