Student answer (Band 7.0)
Many people like to do the new things, whereas others often try to do similar activities. In this essay, both sides of this will be discussed.
One of the main reasons why some people always prefer to explore new things is that they find enjoyment in it. Doing the same activities make their lives boring. Therefore, they try to find engaging tasks, such as visiting new places and trying different cuisines, to make their lives more enjoyable. Furthermore, they love to take on challenges in their life. For example, a recent study suggests that individuals who regularly go hiking in different terrains tend to take risks than those who do not participate in such events. This allows them to live their lives to the fullest.
On the other hand, there are several reasons why some people love to do familiar tasks. Firstly, they are not ready to take chances, and they want to live their lives in a comfortable and predictable environment. As a result, they tend to follow a daily routine in order to maintain a peaceful and stress-free life. Moreover, they like to became experts in their particular field. For instance, a person who has been doing the same job for five years is more likely to reach a higher position than someone with only a few years of experience, This helps them lead more stable and secure lives.
To conclude, some people always try new activities to make their lives enjoyable and challenging, while others prefer familiar activities because they provide stability and comfort. In my view, a balanced approach is best, as people should embrace new experiences while retaining some familiar activities in their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes towards new experiences versus familiar routines and providing a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the link between routine and career stability. However, the development of the 'new experiences' argument is slightly generic. To reach a higher band, the examples could be more specific or nuanced. For instance, the hiking example is a good start but could be better integrated to explain how it specifically relates to the broader concept of 'taking risks' in life. Overall, the position is consistent and the task is fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'As a result' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two opposing viewpoints. The flow is smooth, though the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be slightly more sophisticated to improve the overall cohesion of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly. You use some good collocations like 'predictable environment', 'stress-free life', and 'stable and secure'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on simpler vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise or academic synonyms. For example, instead of 'do the new things', you could use 'embrace novelty' or 'seek out unfamiliar experiences'. There are no significant spelling errors, and the word choice is generally appropriate for the context, though it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is generally good control over grammar, and the meaning is always clear. However, there are some minor errors, such as 'Doing the same activities make' (should be 'makes') and 'they like to became' (should be 'become'). Additionally, there is a minor punctuation error in the second body paragraph where a comma is used instead of a period. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching the highest band. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would further enhance the score.
