Student answer (Band 6.0)

Few people like to try new things, for instance to visit new places and try various types of food. Others prefer to do things they are familiar with. I believe that you should accept the challenge and try new things rather that being stuck at the same old and repetitive schedule. we will discuss both the view in the following paragraphs.

There are many benefits of trying new things. It is not easy to accept the challenges but one should do it in order to come of comfort zone. This will not only give you confidence but at the same time you will be excited before visiting a place or trying different cuisine. Furthermore, you will learn new things, new experience and new way to see the world.

On the other hand, being stuck at the things also has its advantages. people tend not to try new places or food as they want to enjoy in the cost effective way. For instance, middle class people tend to estimate the cost before they go somewhere, and familiarity makes them plan effective and at the same time enjoy it throughly. Additionally, going to similar places or trying same food can be boring but at the same time it allows people to enjoy variety of activities of food at affordable cost.

To summarize, doing similar things aid to save cost and enjoy at affortable cost. I believe one should try new things by accepting challenges and get new experiences and learn from them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the benefits of trying new things, the explanation remains quite general. Similarly, the argument for familiarity is supported by the concept of cost-effectiveness, but this could be expanded with more specific examples beyond just 'middle class people'. The introduction is slightly inaccurate, as you state 'Few people like to try new things' when the prompt implies a more balanced split. To improve, ensure your supporting points are fully explored with concrete examples rather than brief statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'To summarize' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. For instance, the conclusion repeats the idea of 'affordable cost' twice in one sentence, which affects the overall cohesion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly rather than relying on simple additive transitions.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific vocabulary like 'cost-effective', 'cuisine', and 'repetitive schedule'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'come of comfort zone' (should be 'come out of your comfort zone') and 'enjoy in the cost effective way'. There is also some repetition of basic words like 'things' and 'new'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise synonyms and ensuring that collocations are natural and accurate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'we will discuss both the view' (should be 'views'), 'enjoy in the cost effective way' (should be 'enjoy things in a cost-effective way'), and 'enjoy at affortable cost' (spelling error and awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with article usage and subject-verb agreement. To improve, focus on proofreading for small errors and try to incorporate more varied complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
