Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the arguments regarding why people dislike change are repetitive and lack depth, relying on simple statements like 'old is gold'. The explanation of the benefits of change in the third paragraph is also somewhat disjointed, with points about career opportunities and culture presented as a list rather than fully explored arguments. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand on your points with more specific examples or logical reasoning to ensure the reader fully understands your perspective.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Moreover' and 'In this paragraph' are used frequently, which makes the flow feel somewhat artificial. Additionally, the transition between ideas within paragraphs is sometimes abrupt. For instance, the jump from discussing career opportunities to learning about food in the third paragraph lacks a smooth logical connection. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences within a paragraph are more tightly connected would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple, high-frequency words such as 'good', 'new', and 'things'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'scared for adapting' instead of 'scared of adapting' or 'ethics value' instead of 'ethical values'. While the meaning is generally clear, there is a lack of less common or more precise vocabulary that would demonstrate a higher level of language proficiency. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to personal growth, adaptability, and cultural experiences.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('Changes is the part of life', 'everybody’s have their own choice'), article usage ('a new things'), and tense consistency. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces placed before commas and periods in several instances. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to distract the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
