Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument for trying new things relies heavily on the phrase 'broaden their knowledge and develop creative skills' without providing concrete, distinct examples. The discussion on the benefits of familiarity is also quite brief. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific, illustrative examples rather than restating the same concepts in different ways. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' to signal the structure. However, some of the linking is mechanical, and there are issues with sentence-level cohesion. For example, the use of 'Although' followed by 'However' in the final paragraph is redundant and grammatically incorrect, which disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring they are used correctly will help the text read more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive. Phrases like 'develop creative skills', 'broaden their knowledge', and 'detrimental experience' are used multiple times. There are also some minor collocation errors, such as 'involving in a various new activities' (should be 'engaging in various new activities'). To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of synonyms and more precise collocations. The current range is sufficient to communicate your meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people... has broaden', 'can leads to'), incorrect preposition use ('involving in'), and punctuation errors, particularly the misuse of full stops to create sentence fragments ('While others prefer...'). The final paragraph contains a structural error where 'Although' and 'However' are used in the same sentence, creating a redundant structure. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and avoiding sentence fragments will significantly improve your score.
