Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly in the middle of a sentence. Because the word count is 236 words, it fails to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. This significantly impacts the development of the final paragraph and the overall conclusion. While the ideas presented are relevant, the lack of a proper conclusion and the unfinished nature of the final paragraph mean that the task is only partially addressed, limiting the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses paragraphing to separate the introduction, the first viewpoint, and the start of the second viewpoint. However, the abrupt ending disrupts the logical flow and coherence of the final paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'For example', but the overall structure is undermined by the incomplete nature of the text. The inclusion of bullet-point-like notes at the beginning of the response is inappropriate for an essay format and detracts from the professional presentation of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated phrasing such as 'post-industrial era' and 'monotonous life'. However, there are some awkward collocations and minor errors, such as 'dinning at a familiar restaurant' (should be 'dining') and 'enjoy much mo' (incomplete). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. The vocabulary is functional but does not demonstrate a wide range of less common items used with consistent accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'There are some opinions, that prefer...' (incorrect comma usage and relative clause structure) and 'a city person, if travels to remote regions, he/she could find...' (clunky structure). While the errors do not generally impede communication, the incomplete final sentence and the presence of several structural inaccuracies prevent a higher score. The control of punctuation and sentence construction needs improvement to ensure clarity and accuracy.
