Student answer (Band 7.0)

It has been noticed that some people like to experience different things in their life such as different cuisines and landscapes. While another group of individuals prefers to stick with the things they are familiar with and comfortable with. From my perspective, it is always better to try something new because it helps us to gain unique experiences and broaden our horizons.

To commence with, experiencing similar things repeatedly may not only lead to boredom but also to limited knowledge. Visiting the same place every year for vacation and trying the same type of food can limit an individuals' adaptability and sense of appreciation towards other cultures and their people. This Means that, such people may develop a prejudice against other communities, because they never get a chance to know about their culture and values. For instance, many individuals who migrate to diverse countries from isolated areas, may find it significantly difficult to adjust, in terms of food, language and values. This is because, they had never traveled and experienced such environment before in their lives.

On the other hand, individuals who are always open to trying out new experiences and cuisines may have broader perspective along with better understanding of others' culture, weather and moral values. Such individuals may have higher chances of success in both personal and professional aspects of life. They can stand out more in the crowd because of their knowledge, experiences and behavior. Likewise, traveling to different locations can help individuals to develop multiple life skills such as problem-solving, critical-thinking and harmony.

To sum up, being rigid and avoiding new experiences can affect our behavior and limits our knowledge.I personally believe that we should develop sn adaptable nature and this is only possible by trying and experiencing new activities. Doing so, individuals can enhance their knowledge and skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For example, the argument regarding the link between limited experiences and potential prejudice is a thoughtful point. However, the development of the second viewpoint—those who prefer familiarity—is somewhat brief compared to the support for trying new things. The essay maintains a consistent position throughout, which is a strength. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal depth and that the examples provided are more specific to personal experience rather than general observations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'On the other hand', and 'To sum up' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are minor issues with referencing and flow; for instance, the sentence 'This Means that, such people...' contains unnecessary capitalization and slightly awkward phrasing. While the progression of ideas is clear, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes a bit mechanical. Overall, the structure is sound and supports the development of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. You have used some good collocations such as 'broaden our horizons', 'adaptable nature', and 'critical-thinking'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'sn adaptable nature' (typo) and 'harmony' used as a life skill, which is slightly imprecise in this context. While the range is adequate, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more nuanced vocabulary and ensure that word choices are consistently precise and natural in their specific context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is a good attempt at using complex sentences, such as 'While another group of individuals prefers to stick with the things they are familiar with and comfortable with.' However, there are several grammatical errors, including punctuation issues (e.g., 'This Means that, such people...') and minor subject-verb agreement or article errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for punctuation and ensuring consistent control over complex structures will help improve this score.
