Student answer (Band 7.0)
It has been noticed that some people like to experience different things in their life such as different cuisines and landscapes. Another group of individuals prefers to stick with the things they are familiar with and comfortable with. From my perspective, it is always better to try something new because it helps us to gain unique experiences and broaden our horizons.
To commence with, experiencing similar things repeatedly may not only lead to boredom but also to limited knowledge. Visiting the same place every year for vacation and trying the same type of food can limit an individual's adaptability and sense of appreciation towards other cultures and their people. This means that, such people may develop a prejudice against other communities, because they never get a chance to know about their culture and values. For instance, many individuals who migrate to diverse countries from isolated areas, may find it significantly difficult to adjust, in terms of food, language and values. This is because, they had never traveled and experienced such an environment before in their lives.
On the other hand, individuals who are always open to trying out new experiences and cuisines may have a broader perspective along with better understanding of others' culture, weather and moral values. Such individuals may have higher chances of success in both personal and professional aspects of life. They can stand out more in the crowd because of their knowledge, experiences and behavior. Likewise, traveling to different locations can help individuals to develop multiple life skills such as problem-solving, critical-thinking and harmony.
To sum up, being rigid and avoiding new experiences can affect our behavior and limit our knowledge.I personally believe that we should develop an adaptable nature and this is only possible by trying and experiencing new activities. Doing so, individuals can enhance their knowledge and skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For example, the explanation of how limited experiences can lead to prejudice is a strong point. However, the development of the second perspective—those who prefer familiarity—is somewhat brief compared to the argument for trying new things. The position is consistent throughout the essay. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific, balanced examples for the 'familiarity' side, perhaps discussing the psychological comfort or stability that routine provides, rather than focusing primarily on the negative aspects of staying within one's comfort zone.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'On the other hand', and 'Likewise' to link ideas effectively. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing could be more refined. For instance, the phrase 'This means that, such people' contains unnecessary punctuation and slightly awkward phrasing. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the logical flow is maintained throughout the text, meeting the requirements for a band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'broaden our horizons', 'adaptability', and 'critical-thinking' are used appropriately. There are some attempts at less common collocations, though some word choices are slightly repetitive or could be more sophisticated. For example, 'stand out more in the crowd' is a bit informal for an academic essay. While there are no significant errors that impede communication, the range is not yet wide or flexible enough to consistently demonstrate the 'skilful use of uncommon items' required for a band 8. The vocabulary is adequate and fits the context well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show good control over basic grammar, and most sentences are clear. There are some minor errors, such as the comma usage in 'adjust, in terms of' and the missing space after the period in the final paragraph ('knowledge.I personally'). While you attempt complex structures, they are occasionally slightly clunky, such as 'many individuals who migrate to diverse countries from isolated areas, may find...'. Despite these minor slips, the errors are infrequent and do not impede the reader's understanding. The control of grammar is generally strong, justifying a band 7.
