Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address both viewpoints, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient depth. The introduction is vague, and the conclusion does not clearly state your own opinion as requested by the prompt. The ideas regarding social media and child development are somewhat disconnected from the core topic of personal preference for novelty versus familiarity. To improve, ensure you fully explore each viewpoint with specific, relevant examples and clearly state your position in both the introduction and conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as the awkward phrasing 'This ,essay will discuss'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between the two main body paragraphs is abrupt. The conclusion is repetitive and does not effectively synthesize the arguments presented. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'new experiments' instead of 'new experiences' and 'exploring new visits'. Spelling errors are frequent, including 'activites', 'prefrence', 'instersted', 'scho', and 'intersting'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider range of vocabulary, including less common items, and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('studies shows', 'it not only increase') and incorrect verb forms ('prioritize to try', 'believe to doing'). Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly the misplaced comma in the introduction. The frequent errors in basic grammar structures make the text difficult to follow at times. You need to focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
