Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals like to explore new things, for example, visiting new places and trying new foods. Whereas, others like to stick to their usual things. This essay is going to discuss both these viewpoints in the upcoming paragraphs.

First of all, i would like to talk about the people, who are open to try out new things. Some people are extroverts and they love to visit new places, because this way they learn about the history of places. Secondly, it gives them a new point of view. For some folks, trying out new foods, is like a therapy. Different food give them a sense of joy and they also get introduced to the new herbs and spices.

However, on the other hand, some individuals prefer to keep continuing their daily things. I feel like there are two reasons behind this. Firstly, some people are tied up in with their daily lives and they do not get enough time to focus on other activities. Secondly, lack of financial factors, might be stopping them to explore new things. Additionally, some individuals are naturally introvert and they love to focus more on their daily activities, rather then trying out new foods and visiting new places.

In conclusion, i believe that nowadays people like to live on their own terms. For example, certain people like to do things they are familiar, because they feel comfortable by doing that and i my daily life i like to do the same. By doing this, i feel more confident.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation for why people prefer familiar routines—citing 'lack of financial factors' and being 'tied up'—is a good start but lacks depth or specific examples to fully support the argument. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the points discussed. To reach a higher band, you should aim to expand your supporting arguments with more detailed explanations or concrete examples, ensuring that your personal opinion is more clearly integrated throughout the essay rather than just mentioned at the end.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Additionally, some sentences within paragraphs lack smooth logical progression; for instance, the transition between discussing extroverts and the benefits of food therapy is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple phrases like 'new things', 'daily things', and 'good'. While the meaning is always clear, there is a lack of less common or more precise vocabulary that would demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. For example, instead of 'stick to their usual things', you could use 'adhere to established routines'. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'tied up in with their daily lives'. Expanding your range to include more academic or topic-specific vocabulary will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Different food give them' (subject-verb agreement), 'rather then' (should be 'rather than'), and 'i my daily life' (punctuation/capitalization). Additionally, the use of articles and prepositions is inconsistent. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and punctuation will significantly improve your accuracy.
