Student answer (Band 6.0)

There has been an ongoing debate regarding individuals trying new things such as tourist places and various kinds of food. While other people generally prefer doing familiar activities. This essay will discuss both view points thereafter give my opinion.

On the one hand, there is no doubt that some persons are open for exploration to life and experience. As human we are always eager to taste different foods and experience different culture as well as visit trendy locations like a swimming pool, zoo and so on. For instance, a visitor in an international trip would like to visit the most interesting park. Also, eat the local dishes regardless of the number of visiting days. I believe this can help create an unforgettable memory.

On the other hand, one of the key reasons some people prefer to stay in their comfort zone is they are afraid of change. The participation of similar activities has a way of limiting us. For example, if I have to limit myself to a particular type of meal because I had known about them since my childhood. This would likely make me see other cultural foods as insignificant. However, we can always plan ahead. I opted that good planning and encouragement from family and friends can help in decision making. Hopefully, we can put our minds to live a life of positive impact.

In my view, I strongly believe that it is acceptable to move away from your usual routine. This is beneficial to both physical and mental well-being. I would suggest that everyone should have a balanced life and become open-minded.

In conclusion, although I would agree that both points can co-exist. With being open minded and a balanced life, adulthood would be worthwhile.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the paragraph regarding those who prefer familiar activities is slightly underdeveloped and relies on a personal hypothetical scenario rather than broader societal analysis. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the points discussed. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph provides more substantial reasoning and concrete examples that illustrate the 'why' behind these attitudes, rather than just describing them. The position is clear, but the depth of exploration is inconsistent.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'thereafter give my opinion' in the introduction. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, the sentence 'The participation of similar activities has a way of limiting us' is somewhat vague in its connection to the previous sentence. Improving the variety and natural flow of linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'insignificant' and 'co-exist,' but the range is somewhat limited. Some word choices are slightly unnatural or imprecise, such as 'persons are open for exploration to life' or 'I opted that good planning.' While the meaning is always clear, the lack of sophisticated collocations and a wider range of topic-specific vocabulary prevents a higher score. Focusing on more precise word choices will help elevate the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'As human we are always eager' (should be 'As humans') and 'I opted that good planning' (incorrect verb usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence fragments and awkward phrasing, such as 'While other people generally prefer doing familiar activities.' While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Increasing the accuracy of complex structures is the primary area for improvement.
