Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, everyone’s choices change very easily. Some people like to try new and different things like places and food while others believe that this may be risky , they prefer to keep doing the familiar things. I truly believe that try new things is more interesting and beneficial. This essay will discuss both the view points and lead to a conclusion.

First of all, trying new things is very good idea because it helps people to know and learn about different cultures and traditions and enjoy their food. That makes life very exciting. Also, it boosts their confidence. For example, when a person go to different places he meet different personalities and talk to them. So, it helps him to enhance his confidence. Moreover, people learn to respect other cultures and traditions and improve their communication skills.

However, doing the same things is also not bad it has its own good points like it provides comfort and security. People have less stress and risk of what is good here and not. People also prefer to save time and money. For instance, if a person go to a new restaurant just for its popularity but he don’t like the taste of food. And he wasted his time and money there. Thats is why people like to go to their favourite places and restaurants.

In conclusion, i appreciate the people who want to keep doing similar things but try new things is much more beneficial it improves your communication skills, build confidence and gain knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the arguments regarding the benefits of trying new things are repetitive, focusing primarily on confidence and communication. The counter-argument regarding familiarity is also brief and relies on a single example of a restaurant. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or varied examples. The conclusion is present but lacks a summary of the main points, which would have strengthened the overall task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Also', 'Moreover', and 'However' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'risk of what is good here and not', which is grammatically awkward and hinders the flow of the argument. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences connect more smoothly would enhance the coherence of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the task but remains quite basic. You rely on simple adjectives like 'good', 'interesting', and 'beneficial' throughout the text. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'cultures', 'traditions', and 'security', there is a lack of less common or more precise lexical items. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'try new things is more interesting' (should be 'trying') and 'he don’t like' (should be 'he doesn't like'). Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations will help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, for example, 'when a person go' (should be 'goes') and 'he meet' (should be 'meets'). There are also punctuation errors, such as the space before the comma in 'risky , they' and the informal 'i' instead of 'I'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
