Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, such as the benefits of travel for skill development and the comfort of routine. However, some arguments are slightly over-generalized, and the connection between 'trying new things' and 'future job opportunities' could be more explicitly linked to the prompt. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To reach a higher band, ensure that every supporting example directly reinforces the specific attitude being discussed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some referencing is a bit repetitive. For example, the transition 'On the contrast' is non-standard and slightly disrupts the logical progression. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'mitigate', 'unforeseen', and 'dwindle', which are used effectively. However, there are several instances of awkward collocations or word choice errors, such as 'access them safety' (instead of 'provide them with safety') and 'test sense' (likely meaning 'taste buds' or 'palate'). These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more precise word usage to reach the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'this types of trips', 'foreign travelling encourage') and preposition usage. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors that occasionally affect the flow. The errors are noticeable but rarely impede the reader's understanding of the main points. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement and refining the use of articles and prepositions.
