Student answer (Band 6.5)

A particular number of people love to enjoy new things in terms of places or food types but others keep experiencing similar things as they always do. I believe that people should try new attractions and food types. My essay aims at discussing both view points along with the reasons behind my preference.

On the one hand, trying new things can make life so better. The most prominent point is exploring different places and food items allows you to get involved in other cultures and societies which results in knowing all the cultures better and promotes diversity too. Additionally, life is all about wonderful experiences so we should always be ready to explore the things which we never experienced earlier. More the places as well as foods we try more the chances are to have extraordinary experiences.

On the other hand, some people love to enjoy same things again and again because they consider whether the new things they will explore will be satisfying or not. To be more precise, people do not want their time or money to be wasted if they dislike the particular new thing they try. Additionally, some people have very restricted diet and particular preferences where they want to go. These are the biggest reasons which stops people to explore new things.

In conclusion, I believe that human beings should enjoy different things whenever they can as we got only one precious life and we should enjoy it to it's fullest by having wonderful experiences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the cultural benefits of trying new things versus the financial and comfort-based reasons for sticking to the familiar. However, the development is somewhat basic. For instance, the argument regarding 'restricted diets' is mentioned but not fully explored with a concrete example. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific, illustrative examples rather than relying on general statements. The position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a strength.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Additionally'. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing to connect ideas more fluidly. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'diversity', 'societies', and 'extraordinary experiences'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'make life so better' instead of 'make life much better' or 'a particular number of people' instead of 'many people'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to convey your points with more sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'More the places as well as foods we try more the chances are' (which lacks proper article and structure usage) and 'these are the biggest reasons which stops people' (subject-verb agreement error). There is also a punctuation error in the conclusion: 'it's fullest' should be 'its fullest'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
