Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both sides of the prompt and provides a personal opinion, though the opinion is somewhat underdeveloped in the conclusion. The ideas are relevant, but the support is occasionally repetitive or lacks depth. For instance, the discussion on people who prefer familiarity focuses heavily on the fear of disappointment, which is a valid point but could have been expanded with more varied examples. The response covers all parts of the task, but the development of ideas is somewhat limited, preventing it from reaching a higher band. To improve, ensure that your personal opinion is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'Meanwhile', and 'To be concluded' are used to guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but some transitions feel slightly repetitive. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of ideas is logical, making the essay easy to follow despite some minor issues with the naturalness of the linking phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'adventurous', 'comfort', and 'tradition'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is frequent repetition of basic words such as 'people', 'places', and 'things'. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'lives who has different taste with their living life'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise synonyms and collocations to avoid repetitive phrasing and to demonstrate a broader range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, for example: 'people who likes', 'they tries', and 'some places becomes'. Additionally, there are errors in tense consistency and article usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and ensure that verb forms are consistent with the subject and tense of the sentence.
