Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, there are many things which are changing according to time. Some have different choice whereas many people have different either it is food, places or thinking. So, here we are going to talk about the people choices for new things or they are familiar with, for example, places to visit and types of food they like and also, I will give my opinion for this answer in the upcoming paragraphs.

First of all, many people of the old age group like to have same food and always want to visit same places because they have saved some memories which they are connected with. For example, Taj mahal, it is originated in the memory of love story and many people visit there and they recognize their love story. And, also they are habitual of eating healthy food so they prefer to have same food instead of trying new one.

On the other hand, youngsters would like try new things in their daily life. Nowadays, there are different variety of dishes even its healthy or fast food and many different areas to visit so youngsters like to do travelling and camping in new areas so that they can enhance there knowledge.

In my opinion, I think it is good to try new things so that we can get knowledge and comes to know about the new places and food, so, if there will be any discussion we will be the part of that discussion.

In conclusion, it depends on the people choice whereas both have different reasons with there advantages and helps to keep memories and enhance knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited. The discussion on why people prefer familiarity is somewhat superficial, relying on a vague example about the Taj Mahal that does not clearly illustrate the concept of 'familiarity' in daily life. Similarly, the section on trying new things lacks depth and specific examples. The ideas are presented in a general way, and the essay would benefit from more detailed explanations and concrete illustrations to fully explore the implications of these two attitudes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'First of all' and 'On the other hand' are used correctly, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs are sometimes abrupt. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the conclusion where 'both have different reasons with there advantages' is grammatically awkward and lacks a clear link to the preceding arguments. The progression of ideas is present but could be smoother with more varied linking words.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive language, such as 'new things', 'different', and 'good'. Some word choices are imprecise, such as 'originated in the memory of love story' (should be 'built in memory of a love story') and 'habitual of eating' (should be 'accustomed to eating'). There are also minor errors in word formation and collocation throughout the text. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary and demonstrate better control over word choice and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many people of the old age group like to have same food'), article usage (e.g., 'in the memory of love story'), and confusion between 'there' and 'their' (e.g., 'enhance there knowledge'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the writing from reaching a higher level of accuracy. More attention to proofreading for these common mistakes would be beneficial.
