Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe in exploration of new things like go for international trips and try different cuisines. However, others keep doing experienced things. Although both the attitudes have their own benefits, I believe exploring new things make people's life exciting.

People who explore new things often argue that this attitude help them to keep the life exciting. This is because when people travel different places or try different continental dishes, they often learn their cultural and historical values. This knowledge gives a better perspective in their life. For example, when people travel to Japan and understand their culture, they get a better perspective on dietary and time management. This shows that exploring different things in life is very important to improve the quality of life.

On the other hand, keep doing same things can make life easier. Since people know their comfortable things such as favorite place and comforting food, exploring new places or different type of food is uncertain to receive a better experience. To avoid the bad experience, people often do same activities. For example, people often eat same Indian food throughout their life. They do not want to experience bad things for trying new food. Therefore, to eliminate the risk of bad experience, people should keep doing same things as they receive expected experience.

To conclude, although trying same things can fulfill the expectations, trying different things can make life more exciting. I believe trying different things in life is important because it allows people to feel unique experiences.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of cultural exposure versus the comfort of familiarity. However, the development is somewhat limited. The explanation of why people prefer familiar things is a bit repetitive, focusing heavily on the fear of a 'bad experience' rather than exploring other psychological or practical reasons. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more nuanced analysis or varied examples, ensuring that the depth of discussion is consistent across both paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However', 'On the other hand', and 'Therefore', to link your thoughts. However, the use of these devices is sometimes a bit mechanical. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as in the second paragraph where 'they' could refer to either the people or the places. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'continental dishes', 'cultural and historical values', and 'dietary and time management'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of slightly unnatural collocation, such as 'keep doing experienced things' or 'uncertain to receive a better experience'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms and idiomatic expressions to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control and precision in your word choices.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text. For example, 'this attitude help them' should be 'helps', 'when people travel different places' requires a preposition like 'to', and 'keep doing same things' should be 'keeping the same things' or 'continuing to do the same things'. These errors occur frequently but do not impede overall communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and gerunds.
