Student answer (Band 6.0)

Curiosity has led human civilization to the greater heights. Mankind has stated to explore the unknow outer space. That's why one part of the world like to explore things never done before such as, travelling, eating and exploring the world. While, other part prefer to keep doing what they are already doing. In this essay, I am going to explore both of these sides and give my personal opinion about this trend.

On the one hand, there are several reasons that makes individuals to explore various things. Firstly, curiosity. As I earlier said, due to curiosity humanity has lead so many achievements, folks who want to know about the world and where we came from (the question mankind has been asking for years) tend to have high curiosity that make them to try new things. Secondly, repetition becomes boring. For example, the life of a typical man has has a lot of repetitions like working nine to five, doing household chores; which are important, but continuously repetitive, thus they look to try something different, something new.

On the other hand, folks have different opinion who does not like to have changes in their lives. Starting with, some individuals want to hone their skills in one field. They want to become expert and achieve mastery in one particular skills, therefore they dislike to have changes or try new things.

If I have to give my personal opinion I like to go with the first part of the world that is exploring new things, because I also like curiosity and want to know the unknown that is waiting to be known.

To recapitulate, due to the repetition and curiosity individuals prefer go for things that have not done before, while others may want to keep their lives as they are to have mastery in their skills, both statements are debatable, yet I would lean toward the foremost statement that is to explore the unknown.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the link between curiosity and human progress, and the desire for mastery as a reason for routine. However, the development is somewhat limited. The arguments are presented in a fairly basic manner and could benefit from more specific examples or deeper analysis to fully explore the implications of these attitudes. The position is consistent throughout the essay, which is a positive feature, but the overall depth of the response is more characteristic of a band 6 level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Firstly', and 'To recapitulate', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'Starting with' to introduce a point. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved to sound more natural. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the structure supports the reader's understanding of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use more sophisticated language, such as 'human civilization', 'recapitulate', and 'foremost', but there are also instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'Mankind has stated to explore' (likely meaning 'started') and 'folks who want to know'. The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall lexical control is somewhat limited.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Examples include 'makes individuals to explore' (should be 'makes individuals explore'), 'humanity has lead' (should be 'led'), and 'things that have not done before' (should be 'things that have not been done before'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not prevent communication, they are frequent enough to keep the score at a band 6 level.
