Student answer (Band 6.0)

As the famous proverb that goes ''Those who accepts risk and change with open arms gets rewarded generously''. Many people lean towards visiting new places and other types of food, conversely there are individuals opposing change and prefers to do things in traditional ways. In my opinion, I believe that those who like to try new things are the ones living their lives at fullest. However, people should try new things in moderation to keep themselves grounded. I will elaborate my stance in ensuing paragraphs.

Firstly, those who travel different places gets stimulation by experiencing different tradition and culture. Furthermore, meeting new people and trying their clothing, food etc. broadens our perspective of how we see the world, As per various studies conducted, it has been discovered that individuals with extensive travelling experiences are more accommodating and opens up easily with people. Moreover, stepping outside a comfort zone builds confidence and adaptability,

Secondly, there are individuals who prefer to keep doing thing as per set standards and oppose any change in their daily life. Routine habits provide emotional stability and lower daily stress. Additionally, they favor predictability as this helps them to remain stress free. For Instance, eating a home cooked meal or strolling in garden after a stressful day provides them relaxation.

In conclusion, we should always strive to try new things, which is to place new countries, meet locals or try new recipes. Nevertheless, we should try new things in moderation, while keeping cherished habits for stability. This will ensure that we live or life at fullest, while staying grounded with stability, which is required to live a happy and stress free life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes towards change and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat brief. For instance, the discussion on routine is limited to a single example of a home-cooked meal. While the position is consistent throughout, the essay would benefit from more detailed exploration of the 'why' behind these preferences to reach a higher band. The introduction and conclusion effectively frame the argument, ensuring the reader understands the writer's stance on balancing novelty with stability.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are some minor issues with mechanical usage and punctuation, such as the comma splice in '...world, As per various studies...' and the trailing comma at the end of the second paragraph. Despite these, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common items like 'accommodating', 'adaptability', and 'predictability'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'living their lives at fullest' (should be 'to the fullest') and 'strolling in garden' (missing an article). While the range is sufficient, the errors in word formation and collocation prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement, such as 'Those who accepts' (should be 'accept') and 'those who travel... gets stimulation' (should be 'get'). Additionally, there are punctuation errors, including the misuse of quotation marks in the introduction and inconsistent comma usage. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede the overall communication of the message. A wider range of error-free complex structures would be required for a higher band.
