Student answer (Band 6.0)

While it has become increasingly common for some to experience something new in their lives including whether visiting new destinations or trying unusual food, others give more priority to do such things that they already know about. Although people have different reasons behind this, I believe that trying new things likely to be more exciting.

One main reason why individuals prefer to enjoy unusual things because they are more interesting.

When people plan to visit unfamiliar places in their lives, they are more curious to know about the particular place. In this way, they can expand their knowledge about different cultures, traditions, lifestyles about a particular place. In the same time, people who love to taste food from different continents can know about the eating habits of the people and even they can add the dishes in their life if they are healthy.

People who give preference to familiar places instead of visiting extraordinary ones because of their convenience. If people already know about a place, they do not need to research a lot about that place, so without wasting their precious time they visit that locations with their loved ones and enjoy their time. In addition, some people avoid to taste unusual food because they do want to waste their money on unfamiliar dishes because they like to eat only their local food as they already know about the taste and nutritional values of them.

In my opinion, sometime trying something new is a good idea, because people get a chance to take break from their daily routine. Nowadays, people are busy in their everyday life, when they experience new things in their lives, they can reduce their stress and also can feel more active and refresh.

In conclusion, even though giving priority to familiar places and food is understandable, I still believe that sometimes people should enjoy usual things in their routine in order to get b

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of convenience and time-saving for those who prefer familiarity. However, the development is somewhat uneven; the conclusion is incomplete, which impacts the overall task completion. While the position is clear throughout, the arguments could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The response is sufficient in length, but the abrupt ending prevents a fully developed final summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'In conclusion', and 'In this way', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by grammatical inaccuracies. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the lack of a finished conclusion disrupts the overall coherence of the final section.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'nutritional values', 'extraordinary', and 'cultures'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'enjoy unusual things' or 'do such things that they already know about'. While the meaning is always conveyed, the lexical control lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'trying new things likely to be more exciting' (missing verb 'is'), 'some people avoid to taste' (incorrect verb pattern), and 'they do want to waste' (likely meant 'do not want'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these errors occasionally distracts the reader. While the writer attempts complex structures, the control over them is inconsistent, which is characteristic of a Band 6 level.
