Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some people loves to explore new areas and caffes but some people are more comfortable with the things they are already aware of. In this discussion i will cover both the attitudes as I myself have experienced both of them firsthand.

The idea of exploring new things is in itself adventurous. The possibility of discovering new dish to eat, a new activity to do all seems very exciting to them. In addition, they love the chance to meet new people which helps them understand different cultures, elevate their understanding about how the day to day life goes around the different parts of the world. Moreover, a person do not get stuck in the same place where he is just experiencing the same experience almost every time. Exploring a new place every weekend helps break the loop a person might get stuck in a day to day life. When a person takes a risk of going to a completely different place it consequently increase their risk taking ability in other factors of their life as well.

On the other hand, some people always try to be in their comfort zone, the idea of new place somewhat threatens their sense of security. Me myself used to be in the same category few months ago, i would always go to the same restaurant and would hesitate to try any new dish as i would always fear what if i do not like it. Therefore people tends to visit the same place because they know what they are getting plus the idea of wasting their money also plays a crucial role in this decision making.

In conclusion, the people with an adventurous spirit always try do explore something different whereas some people prefer to stick with the same experiences they ones had out of their sense of security. I also used to be the part of later category but with the help pf my friend I now love to explore too.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all parts of the prompt by discussing both attitudes and providing your own opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the benefits of exploration and the reasons for preferring comfort. However, the development is somewhat repetitive in places, and the conclusion could be more robust by explicitly summarising your stance rather than just mentioning your personal change. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended with more nuanced examples rather than relying on general statements about 'day-to-day life'. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', to link your ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes a bit mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing, such as in the final sentence where 'the later category' is used; it would be clearer to refer back to the specific group mentioned earlier. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, but the flow could be improved with more varied transition signals.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'adventurous spirit', 'comfort zone', and 'sense of security'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'elevate their understanding' (which is slightly unnatural in this context) and 'the later category' (should be 'the latter'). There are also a few spelling errors, such as 'caffes' and 'ones' instead of 'once'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('some people loves', 'a person do not', 'people tends'), missing articles, and punctuation errors (e.g., comma splices like '...comfort zone, the idea of new place...'). While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and commas in complex sentences.
