Student answer (Band 6.0)

While a group of people like to try new things in their life, other group prefers to try familiar things only, rather than visiting new places or try new food. This will evaluate the reasons behiend this manner and provide opinion in the last.

Given that a group of individuals tends to try different things, it stems from a feeling of encouragement. Visiting unknown places allow new opportunities to come, from exploring new locations to eating local food. For example, when travelers travel to different parts of the world, they gain valuable lifelong experience by meeting inhabitants as well as receive a chance to engage in the local culture. These activities inevitably stimulates their feeling of happiness and boost their confidence, which further benefits them in their future.

Other group of people are more keen to participate in familiar things rather than trying strange ones. This is because they do not feel motivated to take unknown risks associated with that opportunity, even if that can be advantageous for them. For example, a members of the community do not want to search for new suitable jobs because they scare of loosing the one that they already have, albeit they are not realistically happy with that. Therefore, some citizens just want to do what they know about completely.

In conclusion, although both groups have their own priorities and reasons, I believe people should be adventurous. To be more precise, people should try new things in their life since those can lead them towards happiness and new opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both attitudes and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the benefits of cultural exposure versus the security of familiar routines. However, the development is somewhat limited; the arguments are brief and could benefit from more specific, nuanced examples to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on job security is a good point but lacks depth in explaining why this fear persists beyond just 'scaring'. The position is consistent throughout, but the overall development remains at a functional level rather than a fully extended one.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'Given that', 'For example', and 'Therefore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'Other group of people' (should be 'The other group') and 'that opportunity' (which lacks a clear antecedent). Despite these minor lapses, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'inhabitants' and 'inevitably', which are used correctly. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice or minor errors, such as 'behiend this manner' (behind this mindset) and 'scare of loosing' (scared of losing). These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more precise collocation and spelling accuracy to move into the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a group of people', 'a members of the community'), subject-verb agreement ('These activities inevitably stimulates'), and word forms ('they scare of'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent control over complex structures.
