Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, stopping abruptly at only 176 words and leaving the second body paragraph and conclusion unfinished. Because the response is significantly under-length and leaves parts of the task completely unaddressed, it cannot achieve a passing score for task completion. Although the writer attempts to introduce both attitudes in the opening paragraph and begins to discuss reasons why people visit new areas, the lack of completion severely limits the development of ideas and prevents a clear position or discussion of both sides from being established. According to the band descriptors, this falls into a lower category due to the incomplete nature of the response and failure to fully address the prompt instructions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The text shows a basic attempt at paragraphing with an introduction and a first body paragraph, but the essay abruptly cuts off at the start of the second body paragraph with 'on the other hand,'. The logical progression is severely disrupted by the premature ending. Cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Firstly,' 'To explain it more,' and 'Finally,', but these are often mechanically applied and accompanied by awkward transitions. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the lack of a complete structure means overall coherence and cohesion cannot be fully developed. The formatting and incomplete sentences significantly hinder the flow of reading, placing the response at this level.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items, such as 'sophisticated era', 'broden the horizons', and 'taste buds'. However, there are frequent word choice errors, spelling mistakes ('broden' instead of broaden, 'othe' instead of other, 'secondly' capitalized mid-sentence incorrectly), and awkward collocations like 'enjoy the same pace with they are more connected from longer times'. Vocabulary repetition is also noticeable, particularly with words like 'hobby' and 'explore'. While the range is minimally adequate to convey some basic ideas, the frequent lexical errors and lack of precision restrict the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and attempted complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is notably weak. There are numerous basic subject-verb agreement errors throughout the text, such as 'a few of individuals wants', 'others likes', 'people has', and 'writers always wants'. Additionally, prepositional and structural errors are common, such as 'connected from longer times'. Because the response is cut short, the range of complex structures remains limited and frequently faulty. These persistent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader, aligning with the descriptors for a band 4.5 to 5.0 range, where simple sentences are generally more controlled than complex ones.
