IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people like to try new things, for example, places to visit and types of food. Other people prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with.
Discuss both these attitudes and give your own opinion.
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
People have diffrent perspectives towards living life; some prefer to explore new places and foods, while other are okay with living a monotonous life. The reasons behind people's two different believs are their eagerness and age to enjoy an experimental and simple life. I am personally with those who enjoy trying out new things.
On the one hand, enjoying new activites, food and places are part of personality trait of some people, which make them go beyond the comfortzone and live lively. People of ceratin age, say youngsters, are more into risk taking and doing experiments with life , and their age and physical strenght certainly allow this. By doing so they are adding new experiences in life and making their life full of fun and charm. Even, it is sciencetfically proven that if someone enjoy life, he/she is less likey to feel anxiety and depression in later life.
On the other hand, several individuals are not open to changes because of their mindset or age. Especially middle-aged or elderly people are more likey to enjoy their monotonous lifestyle or easy life. Even, sometimes their physical situtations also do not allow them to try diffrent kinds of food and visit different places occasionally. It is seen that in the majority of Asian Countries, the most of the middle-aged or grey generations live a simple and less chiaotic life with a regular and fixed routine in order to avoid further problems.
In conclusion, although some people give priority to have a simple and same lifestyle due to their age-factor and health-conditions, there are still majority of individuals who love to live a experimental and experiential life. In my opinion, exploring new parts and intersting facts is the best way to live a stress-free and relaxed life. We only get one life, so it is better to live lively and enjoy every moment of it.

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. It is divided into four well-structured paragraphs with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, and a concluding paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text effectively, though referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, guiding the reader smoothly from one argument to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate and sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'monotonous', 'experimental', 'personality trait', and 'stress-free'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'diffrent' instead of 'different', 'believs' instead of 'beliefs', 'sciencetfically' instead of 'scientifically', and 'likey' instead of 'likely'. Collocations such as 'live a experimental and experiential life' could be more natural. These vocabulary errors do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
