Student answer (Band 6.0)

A group of individuals are always prone to experiment new expeditions and testing new products, while others tend to keep the movement steady and find themself confined to their established social, economical boundaries. This essay will examine both attitudes to find out an arguable best route.

In the contemporary society, an unspoken competition pervails among masses due to social media. As a result, certain group of people try new things to post on social media to secure more likes and comments. Therefore, in the pursuit of something unsual, for example, many people line up to buy new Apple mobile phone, so that their posts can secure more algorithimic reach and likes. What is more, certain group of people love to explore new places, new products, and build new connections out of their adventerous and extrovert approach. Pyschology believes that this group of prople get bored with repeatition and a sense of change brings out happiness and content for these groups.

Whereas, other group of individuals find it difficult to cope with constant change. For instance, in the early 21st century, the use of computers in the Finance industry created a big space between propopents arguing for switching to computerisation from manual records, while critiques sticking to manual record keeping. These critiques were not able to learn new skills to overcome the skill gap. Additionally, a group of individuals just try to keep their social circle narrow. Such individuals don't love to explore new relationship and new places, so their self satisfaction just arise by following the routine.

Consequently, as change is always inevitable, and new world requires constant upskilling, trying new technology. Exploring new places and technology helps people to not miss the train. That said, it should not create a send of unhealthy compition among friends and societies. Therefoore, a balance approach whereby an individual find a corner of his pleasure alon, while not getting outdated with the outdated stuff should be sorted.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both attitudes towards trying new things versus sticking to the familiar, and clearly states the writer's opinion in the conclusion. Ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as buying new Apple mobile phones for social media reach and the historical example of finance industry computerisation. However, some arguments lean slightly towards over-generalisation or are slightly underdeveloped in terms of depth, which aligns closely with the Band 7 descriptor. The position remains clear throughout the essay, and the main ideas are well-supported by relevant examples and personal viewpoints.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are presented coherently, and paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the two body paragraphs discussing opposing views, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'whereas', 'consequently', and 'for instance' are used to connect ideas, though there are minor mechanical instances and slightly awkward transitions, such as starting a sentence with 'Whereas'. Overall, referencing and paragraph structure are clear, supporting a solid Band 7 performance for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, employing less common lexical items such as 'expeditions', 'pervails', 'algorithmic reach', and 'upskilling'. However, there are noticeable word-choice inaccuracies and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'themself' instead of 'themselves', 'unsual' instead of 'unusual', 'algorithimic', 'adventerous', 'repeatition', 'propopents', and 'critiques' used instead of 'critics'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the essay from reaching a higher band, making Band 6.0 an accurate reflection of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating various subordinate clauses and participial phrases, such as 'Exploring new places and technology helps people to not miss the train.' However, there are several persistent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'a group of individuals... find themself', missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as 'a balance approach whereby an individual find a corner of his pleasure alon'. These errors occasionally distract the reader, though they rarely impede complete understanding, placing the essay squarely in the Band 6 category for grammar.
