Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people are adventurous and free spirited and they crave for new experiences which would bring them out of a daily routine which for some people can feel like being stuck in a loop over and over again. It certainly does make sense for them to try something new hobby every once in a while to break the cycle of boredom they might be experiencing. In my opnion it makes sense for the people wo have jobs with tasks which are very repetitive. I personally have that kind of a job and I also work from home which becomes very boring so sometimes I like taking a road trip to an unknown place or trying out a new hobby or a skill like I tried to learn how to crotchet once and I also love trying out new places to eat.
On the other hand some peope thrive on comfort zone and they don't like uncertainity at all. They plan ahead of time even when they have to travel and they do not take things lightly as they get worried about the things that could go wrong instead of focusing on the positives. In my opinion these people have controlling personalities and can become overly upset if things don't go as planned. For example one time on trip we tried out a new place and I agree that the food wasn't what we expected but my friend made a huge deal out of it and ruined the mood. I mostly never relate to these type of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both attitudes toward routine and change, and a clear personal position is presented in both paragraphs. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the first attitude is explored with some relevant personal examples, such as learning how to crochet and taking road trips, the second perspective on people who prefer familiarity is less fully developed and relies heavily on a single brief anecdote about a friend complaining about food. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to extend both viewpoints with more universally applicable arguments and fully elaborated explanations rather than shifting quickly into casual personal narratives.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into two main paragraphs representing the contrasting attitudes requested in the prompt. Progression is visible as the essay moves logically from adventurous individuals to those who prefer their comfort zones. However, cohesion is somewhat mechanical and features a heavy reliance on basic conjunctions like 'and' to string clauses together without sufficient punctuation or advanced linking devices. Furthermore, paragraphing is limited because the entire discussion is compressed into only two large blocks of text, lacking a distinct introductory or concluding framework. Introducing a wider variety of cohesive markers and breaking ideas into well-structured paragraphs would enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the writer's ideas. The student attempts less common phrases such as 'adventurous and free spirited', 'crave for new experiences', and 'controlling personalities'. Nevertheless, there are notable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'opnion' instead of opinion, 'wo' instead of who, 'crotchet' instead of crochet, and 'uncertainity' instead of uncertainty. There is also slight awkwardness in phrasing, such as 'try something new hobby' and 'thrive on comfort zone'. These errors do not impede communication, but to reach the next band, the vocabulary needs to be more precise, better collated, and completely free of basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures to express ideas. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, though they rarely impede communication. Examples include missing commas in compound and complex sentences, run-on structures like 'In my opinion these people have controlling personalities and can become overly upset if things don't go as planned', and preposition issues such as 'on trip' instead of 'on a trip'. The control of verb tenses and agreement is generally fine, but punctuation is weak, particularly regarding run-on sentences. To achieve a higher level, the writer must produce a greater frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise much tighter control over punctuation.
