Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is ofte argued that few individuals like trying different things, as an example places to visit and types of dishes whereas others believe that prefering the same food which they are familiar with. Both the views have their own value because taste of food depends on an individuals choice and also the nature of people. I will discuss both the statement and give my opinion.

To begin with, its nature of people to have their own choice of eating, visiting new places because every individual has their own way of living. For example, people living in town like to try different dishes as there are a number of restaurants availabe in their areas. Moreover, they have more facilities and income where they can travel from one place to another easily without caring of money. They also have freedom to visit anywhere and can make self decisions about their life.

On the other hand, there are some people who loves to eat same food daily because of their choices as well as they are more senitive with their health. For instance, people living in a village area, they believe that they have to eat the food which are grown in their own field. As a result, they think these are healthy food and also taste good so they avoid other dishes by thinking that they are not fresh food and may contain pesticides.

From my perspective, I believe that eating different healthy food is good because various food contains different nutritions which is beneficial to health. However, it is good to eat their own field crops doesnot mean that people who are eating variety of dishes consumed unhealthy food.

To conclude, I believe eating food and visiting different places depends on the human nature. Therefore, everyone should prefer their own choice and way of living beacuse at the end they should live happily.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both attitudes towards trying new things versus familiarity and attempts to give a personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and uneven across the paragraphs. For instance, the discussion on why people living in towns try different dishes relies on broad generalisations about income and freedom without deep elaboration. Similarly, the conclusion touches briefly on food and travel, but the overall position becomes slightly repetitive rather than fully extended. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to provide more fully developed explanations and concrete, well-reasoned examples that thoroughly explore why people hold these contrasting viewpoints.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion appropriately. There are attempts to sequence ideas logically using basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand'. However, referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or slightly abrupt, making the progression of thought feel a bit repetitive, particularly in the concluding section where the final stance echoes earlier points rather than driving the argument forward. To improve, the writer should ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and that sentences within paragraphs flow into one another with smoother logical links.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate vocabulary range to communicate basic ideas related to lifestyle choices and food preferences, attempting less common phrases such as 'sensitive with their health' and 'fresh food'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies, including word choice and collocation errors like 'It is ofte argued', 'prefering the same food', and 'availabe'. Additionally, minor spelling slips occur. While these issues do not entirely impede communication, they restrict the precision of the writing. Incorporating a wider and more accurate range of vocabulary, along with better control of word forms and collocations, would significantly enhance the lexical quality of the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, featuring a mix of simple sentences alongside attempts at more complex forms. However, these complex structures are frequently faulty, accompanied by frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'some people who loves', missing articles, preposition errors, and awkward phrasing such as 'different food contains different nutritions which is beneficial'. Punctuation and tense control also show recurring instability. These frequent errors require the reader to occasionally pause or decode the meaning. To achieve a higher standard, the writer needs to increase sentence variety while drastically improving grammatical accuracy and structural control.
