Student answer (Band 5.5)

Exploring something new is a beneficial way to get familiarize with the new things. It is often argued that people like to do things they are familier with while others try to do something new. This essay will intend to discuss both views followed by my opinion.

To begin with, most people are fond of exploring new places to eat or visit. The are several reasons for this statement. By visiting such new places the individuals get introduced with the new things. For instance, exploring a new restaurant to dine-in. Moreover, by exploring the new places, cities, or countries people can make new friends, and increase their social circle. Some people like to do adventure or create new stories , for example; visiitng a new place and creating unforgettable memeories.

On the other hand, a majority of individuals like to doing things they are familier with. The main reason to support this statement is that they don't want to waste their time to explore the new things because they are busy in their daily schedules and did not get enough time to try something new. To support this notion, many people like to visit the same restaurant because they do not want to waste their time to explore some new places.

In my opinion, try something new is always beneficial because people may get introduced with the new things and learn something new. In addition to it ,individual may learn something new.

To conclude, doing the familier things that we are familier with will not enhance our knowledge, however by try something different will help individuals to gain some insightful knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both attitudes towards new experiences versus familiar routines and presents a clear position. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed, which aligns with a partial coverage of the task. For instance, the discussion on why people prefer familiar routines relies on repetitive points about not wanting to waste time, such as visiting the same restaurant, without expanding further into psychological or lifestyle factors. Similarly, the points regarding exploring new places are briefly listed rather than thoroughly extended. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to provide more fully elaborated explanations and more substantial supporting examples for each viewpoint.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays an overall coherent arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different viewpoints. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and repetitive, particularly with transitional phrases like 'To begin with,' 'On the other hand,' and 'To support this notion.' Referencing and substitution are occasionally faulty, leading to a lack of smooth progression between sentences. For example, sentences within the second body paragraph feel somewhat disjointed. To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices and ensure that ideas flow logically from one to the next without relying on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to communicate the central ideas. There are noticeable lexical errors, including frequent misspellings and incorrect word forms, such as 'familier' instead of 'familiar,' 'get familiarize,' and 'visiitng' with a typo. Other expressions like 'do adventure' or 'try something new is always beneficial' show awkward word choice and collocation that stem from a restricted lexical range. These errors occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader. To reach the next level, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, use less common lexical items with greater precision, and pay closer attention to spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay relies on a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent errors in grammar. The writer attempts some complex sentences, but these are often faulty or repetitive in structure. There are notable errors in verb forms, tenses, and infinitive/gerund patterns, such as 'like to doing things,' 'did not get enough time,' and 'try something new is always beneficial' where a gerund subject ('trying') is required. Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces around commas ('In addition to it ,individual'), also occur. These frequent errors can cause some difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex structures with improved accuracy across basic and advanced grammatical patterns.
