Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing debate about whether people should try new things like visiting new places or keep doing things they are familiar with. While some people like to travel to new places, others do not. I believe that people should try new things like trying new food or visiting places, let's discuss it further in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, a considrable number of people say that we should not try new thing especifically new food and just keep eating things they are familiar with because they are afraid to take the risk. to elaborate, many people believe that trying new things is risky because they are not sure about the taste and they habitual to their daily meals. For instance, my uncle do not like to try new food because he do weighlifting and he is worried that if he tries new food he will gain weight and loose his body shape and strength. As a result, he do not try new food and stuck to his daily routine meals.

On the other hand, I believe that we should try new things like food to keep our life interesting and joyful. To exlain, we should keep trying new things this will keep us motivated and build interest. to site an example, i suggested my uncle that i understand your fear of losing shape and strength but you should try new food and modify it according to your needs. He does not like apples but i made apple curry for him and he really loved it and he was too delighted to hear that it is very healthy and full of iron and fibre. Which demonstrates that we should try new things and modify them according to your needs.

To conclude, As we discussed both the points in the above paragraphs, i strongly believe that we should try new thing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both attitudes towards trying new things versus sticking to the familiar, and it clearly states the writer's own opinion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the viewpoint on sticking to familiar things is introduced, parts of the discussion, particularly the personal example regarding the uncle and his weightlifting, become somewhat anecdotal and narrative rather than fully analytical. The position is maintained throughout the essay, but some arguments remain partially under-developed, preventing a higher evaluation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance and distinct paragraphing used for the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Information and ideas are generally organized with some logical progression. However, the bridging between sentences can sometimes feel mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as the frequent conversational transitions like 'to elaborate' and 'to site an example'. Referencing is mostly clear, but the flow between thoughts occasionally lacks the polish required for higher levels, though it successfully meets the requirements of this band while beginning to show elements of clearer logical sequencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their main ideas successfully. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'delighted', 'routine', and 'modify', but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling errors like 'considrable', 'especifically', 'habitual' (used incorrectly as an adjective meaning accustomed), and 'loose' instead of 'lose'. Word choice errors and occasional spelling slips occur, but they do not seriously impede communication, placing the lexical range firmly within this band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct longer sentences. However, there are numerous errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'my uncle do not like' and 'he do weighlifting', incorrect preposition use, and run-on sentences or comma splices, such as 'Which demonstrates that we should try new things and modify them according to your needs.' These frequent errors in basic structures and verb forms cause some strain for the reader, though meaning remains generally retrievable.
