Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

When i was younger i wouldn't ever think about most of the choices i've made today.

I was a typical guy from a small town, with big dreams but not intended to change habits.

So, now, i'm gonna answer your question based on what i learnd myself.

you never gonna change untill you understand how nice is to change and discover new things.

i was eating the same things, i wanted to be always in my city, or better, in my province, not even my country, because i wasn't a big fan of travelling unitl I TRY IT.

So, this is how everything it started.

One day, i decided to take a flight to Australia, basically 15k kilometers away far from my city, and after a week or so, i understood that changing, or trying a new thing, a new place, or even a different food, is something awesome, and from that moment on, i've never quit doing it.

Different story with Alex, a guy i've met in the hostel, nonetheless a guy from cassino, city near my hometown.

Well, he kept his habits, his attitudes, and his taste, just because his own personality was not ready for it (maybe).

After all, I've always said, we're all different in this world, reason why the world is beautfiul!

Now after this short story, i'll go to the point.

it doesnt matter wich attitude you are part of, you can be a person who like to change and try, and this is beautiful itself.

And you can be a persona who doesnt want to change, and again it's beautiful as well.

the only important thing is to being yourself.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt only partially. While the student attempts to discuss both attitudes regarding trying new things versus keeping familiar habits and introduces a personal opinion, the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion of the friend Alex is abrupt and lacks sufficient elaboration to fully support the argument. The position is somewhat blurred by the informal and conversational tone, which shifts away from a standard discursive essay format. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to expand on the reasons behind both viewpoints with well-supported explanations and clear examples rather than relying on a brief personal anecdote.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organisation, but the response lacks clear overall progression. The essay is broken into many short, fragmented paragraphs and single-sentence lines, which disrupts the logical flow. Cohesive devices are used rather simplistically and at times inaccurately, such as the abrupt transitions 'So, this is how everything it started' and 'Now after this short story, i'll go to the point.' Referencing between ideas can also be unclear. To improve, the writer should group related ideas into standard cohesive paragraphs and employ a wider, more natural range of transition signals to guide the reader smoothly through the arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for conveying basic points. The student uses common words and attempts some less common expressions, but there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'intended to change habits', 'far from my city', and 'wich attitude you are part of'. Spelling and capitalization issues are also present, including lowercase 'i', 'learnd', 'unitl', and 'beautfiul'. These errors reflect a restricted lexical control that occasionally causes difficulty for the reader. To progress, the student should expand their vocabulary repertoire and focus on precise word choice, accurate spelling, and standard phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences. Attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and articles. Examples include 'most of the choices i've made today' (inappropriate tense usage), 'you never gonna change untill you understand how nice is to change', and missing capitalization and apostrophes. These persistent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence forms with improved accuracy in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation.
