Student answer (Band 5.5)

Yes,some people like to try new things. It could be visiting places and trying new foods while other prefer to keep doing things they are familiar with. These both types of people have their own opinion, priority and values. Let's catagorize the firsf type as A and secong type as B.

For type A people, they like to experience new things. Visiting new places make them excited, trying new foods opens more views towards foods and trying new things can teach them something new. These type of people seek new experices, excitment, learning opportunities, adventure and thril. Type A people aren't afraid to step out of their comfort zone and try out new things.

As for type B,they like to keep things as it is. These type of people go on with their familiar schedule, which is easy to understanc since they've been doing it for long time. Type B people get uncomfortable when they are out of their comfort zone, they get anxious, panic and questions themselves with 'what if?' and the answers are always negative. Trying out new things genuinely makes them scared and anxious.

In my opinion, I think people should take up the courage to try out new things and just go for it without thinking about 'what if?' Only after stepping out of comfort zone do people realize theri potentials, what they are capable of and what they are not good in. Trying out new things helps to gain new experience, discover new things that you were not aware of,find something that makes you interested. Following the same pattern every day won't teach you something you,nor gives you chance to exlore the things around you. Therefore, people should try to get out of their comfort zone and try out new things.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You discuss both attitudes and give a clear preference for trying new things, so the main parts of the task are covered. The contrast between people who seek “adventure and thrill” and those who feel anxious outside familiar routines is relevant. However, the discussion is mostly general: the benefits of novelty are listed rather than illustrated with a specific example, and the description of the second group focuses mainly on fear. Your opinion is clear, but claims such as “Following the same pattern every day won’t teach you something” are broad and would be stronger if qualified or supported. Develop each side with a concrete example and explain the reasoning behind your view more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph for each attitude, and a concluding paragraph that states your opinion. This makes the discussion easy to follow. You also use basic signposting such as “For type A people,” “As for type B,” and “Therefore.” However, repeatedly labelling people as “type A” and “type B” makes the progression somewhat mechanical, and some links between ideas are abrupt. For example, the move from anxiety to the claim that answers to “what if?” are “always negative” could be explained more clearly. Use more natural referencing and connect examples to the point they support, while keeping the clear paragraph structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary to distinguish the two attitudes, including “familiar schedule,” “comfort zone,” “anxious,” and “learning opportunities.” These choices make your meaning generally clear, and there are attempts at more expressive language such as “step out of their comfort zone.” However, the range is limited by repeated phrases such as “try out new things” and “comfort zone,” while several inaccurate or misspelled forms reduce precision: “catagorize,” “experices,” “excitment,” and “exlore.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “opens more views towards foods.” Build a wider set of accurate collocations and proofread spelling so that your ideas sound more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use mostly straightforward sentence patterns, with some attempts to combine ideas, such as “Only after stepping out of comfort zone do people realize…” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation occur often enough to affect accuracy. Examples include “other prefer” instead of a plural verb form, “Visiting new places make them excited,” and “These type of people.” There are also run-on sentences, such as the sentence beginning “Type B people get uncomfortable,” where several clauses are joined with commas. Use a wider mix of controlled complex sentences, check subject–verb agreement and articles, and separate independent clauses with full stops or suitable conjunctions.
