Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: describing the book, explaining its influence, and discussing its potential impact on others. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the book's content is quite vague, and the explanation of how it influenced you could be more specific with concrete examples of changes in your behavior. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully extended rather than just stated. The tone is appropriate for a letter to an editor, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the description, influence, and finally the recommendation. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. There are instances where sentences are fragmented or lack smooth transitions, such as the abrupt start to the second paragraph. Paragraphing is present, but the structure could be improved to better separate the distinct points requested in the prompt. Improving the variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') would help the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and basic. You rely on simple phrases like 'best book' and 'positive way'. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'loss' instead of 'lose', 'perfessional' instead of 'professional', and 'influneced' instead of 'influenced'. These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they do limit your score. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and verbs to describe your experiences and the book's impact, and pay closer attention to the spelling of common professional terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally affect readability. For example, there are issues with article usage ('one of the best book' should be 'one of the best books'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence fragments ('which was recommended by friend'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and spacing after periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small grammatical slips will be very beneficial.
